What are Stem Cells

Stem cell research is one of the most important and exciting medical and scientific frontiers of our time. Almost every day, there is the announcement of a new discovery, a new experiment, a new success in the use of these cells that bring us closer to finding treatments for many challenging health conditions and diseases.

Stem cells are unique cells that are capable of self-renewal and can differentiate into tissue- and organ-specific cell types. They are the basic building blocks of the human body from which all other types of cells originate. During the embryonic development, these cells divide to build all the tissues and organs, such as muscles, nerves, heart, blood or skin. In the adult's body, stem cells are found in some of the organs and tissues and can repair damaged tissues via tissue regeneration.

Stem cells carry out a crucial function for the health and well-being, and might be used to treat various pathologies via tissue/organ replacement or regeneration.

Biocell Center's method allows to efficiently preserve cells contained in the amniotic fluid, including stem cells. There are no ethical issues to contend with in collecting and potentially using amniotic fluid stem cells because this does not impact the life of the embryo.
