Amniotic Fluid Stem Cell Banking

The greatest advantage of preserving amniotic fluid cells is that there are stem cells contained in the amniotic fluid, and your child will always have at his or her disposal a sample of cells that are fully compatible with their body. Amniotic fluid stem cells can be collected for preservation during a routine second trimester amniocentesis without any changes to the standard procedure.

If you are scheduled to undergo amniocentesis for diagnostic purposes and you wish to cryopreserve the amniotic fluid cells, please follow these steps:

• Fill in the request information form. Biocell Center staff will contact you and will provide any information you may need including the contract;
• Once the contract is signed, Biocell Center will ship the Kit to your home. Take the Kit with you and give to your physician on the day of the amniocentesis;
• After the physician performs amniocentesis, few milliliters of amniotic fluid that are not necessary for the diagnostic testing are placed into the Kit
• Keep the sample at room temperature until it is picked up by the shipment courier
• The courier will transport the kit to Biocell Center’s laboratory where the cells will be cryopreserved
